Where to start when considering what type of tablescapes will work best for your destination wedding in Italy.
With Pinterest and Instagram showing off so many amazing design ideas when it comes to your wedding floral design and in particular your tablescapes/centrepieces, it’s often hard for you to focus on what is going to work for your special day and not feel completely overwhelmed with all of the choice out there.
Your table design is very important. Your tables can set the tone of the whole reception design being a focal point and bearing in mind the amount of time you and your guests are seated at the dinner table, it really is vital to get this right. We offer some hints and tips to help get you when making these important choices :
Start by thinking about you and your style
If you’re more ‘bohemian chic’ than ‘grandiose’ in your personal style then opt for elements that match this. Think about the vibe of places you have visited together that mean something to you, colours and personal items that feature in your home and then consider how these elements can be incorporated into your design rather than focusing on the latest wedding trends.

talk to your wedding planner
Your wedding planner has masses of experience in this field so take on board their suggestions too. Having been influential in the design of lots of individual weddings your planner is going to know what works well in specific locations and where it may be feasible to pull back the budget and where would be beneficial not to. Your planner will also take into consideration your overall budget to ensure you are matched to the perfect Floral Designer available to bring your dream vision to life. The beauty of planning weddings on the Sorrento and Amalfi Coast is that the scenery is so spectacular that sometimes less can be more!
put together a mood board
A mood board is a useful way of looking at different design elements together as a whole and seeing whether they work well together. Once this is created then it’s helpful to also compare the costs and work through the essentials versus the non essentials.
consider seasonal flowers & temperature
Remember that unfortunately not everything that you see on Instagram and Pinterest is going to be available for your wedding in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Peonies, for example, are a very popular flower for bridal bouquets but they bloom in late Spring so you will not be able to easily source them for July/Aug/Sept weddings. They are also a very delicate flower so you need to also consider how well these will last in higher temperatures. Take on board the advice of your Floral Designer who can guide and advise you on the best flowers to work with that will be in season for your special day.
consider the comfort of your guests
If you are opting for very large floral centrepieces/tablescapes consider the height and depth of these carefully to ensure that your guests are able to maintain good eye contact with each other. You are going to be spending at least 2-3 hours at the dinner table therefore you must ensure that your guests have great interaction during dinner and that you won’t block their view or impede comfort.
think about the lighting
Creating the right ambience is key and candles really are key in doing so. From elegant taper candles to small tealights to chunky pillar candles… there is a huge amount of choice available to match perfectly to your overall wedding design. Add in some floor lanterns too or some hanging tea light glass spheres to further add to the magic.
