1-1 with Jimena Puy - top Sorrento hair and makeup artist
We are so happy to welcome the gorgeous and super talented Jimena Puy to the blog. Jimena has worked with Sophisticated Weddings from our beginning and we LOVE working with her! Here we ask some important questions all about bridal hair and makeup, and she also shares some beauty secrets! Enjoy!
How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get started in the industry?
I've been a professional makeup artist since 2009, so 11 years now. I used to be an office manager, I was almost in my 30's and I felt like I needed a change. My job was so unfulfilling and so makeup started as a hobby… I was always the one that helped my friends get ready to going out and it really started from there! So after a couple of years of training in image consulting, hair and makeup, I was finally able to leave my office manager job and dedicate myself full time to my passion.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration always comes from my clients themselves. I always try to highlight the true beauty of each client.
What has been the biggest challenge of your career?
I started my career in Argentina, in a big city with a lot of competition and just as things really started to take off, I fell in love and decided to follow him to Italy. Starting all over again in a new country. with a new language and a new culture was not easy. It was a big challenge. Although the relationship did not work out, I am so grateful that I came to live and work in the most beautiful place in the world.
What do you love most about make up?
How the self-esteem of a person can be changed completely with a few products and seeing their happiness when they look in the mirror.
Does everyone look better with make-up?
I think I can safely say that we all look better!
What three makeup items should no woman leave the house without?
Mascara, Spf and blush!
How would you describe your signature bridal look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
I have been trained first as an image consultant. So I see the whole look. I like to be in charge of the hair and makeup although I also offer the service separately. but basically I use my knowledge and taste in colorimetry visagism styling trying to respect the physiognomy of each bride and trying to show the best version of her. I do not follow trends and fashions but beauty.
What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?
That you have to learn to love yourself and highlight your strengths. It does not make sense to copy others. We all have our own beauty to show and we have to discover and enhance it.
Share something you would like the world to know about you
After telling you that I came here for a love story that didn't work out .. it turns out that life had a better plan for me and now I have a beautiful family here in Sorrento and have since given birth to two babies, a boy and a girl. I’m so blessed.

What famous artists have influenced you, and how?
Kevyn Aucoin, when I started there was no Pinterest or Instagram, so his books made me fall in love with the power of makeup. His art, how it can enhance beauty and how it can also change you completely into another person.
And my favourite makeup artist of all, https://www.instagram.com/gervasiolarriveyestudio/ for his generous way of explaining his knowledge and art. He is Argentinian and I have been blessed to do so many courses and updates with him.
What advice can you give to brides considering doing their own make up?
I wouldn't recommend it. Your hair and makeup are the most important accessories of your bridal look. But if you really want to do it yourself, less is more. Always. And remember you are getting married in very humid and hot weather. So everything needs to be waterproof, and resist high temperatures and sweat.
