Soulmaz and Magnus, Sorrento, June 2016

Soulmaz and Magnus married on a beautifully hot day in June at the incredible Villa Eliana, Sorrento surrounded by a large number of family and friends who had travelled from all over the globe to share their special day.

Villa Eliana was built as a private residence in the 1960's by Neopolitan ship-owner Achille Lauro who dedicated it to his wife Eliana. Having been beautifully restored by the Vinaccia brothers, who acquired it in 2000, it is an incredible location of weddings, ceremonies and events.

The wedding ceremony (aghd) was celebrated in keeping with Soulmaz’s Iranian heritage. The aghd was performed in front of a sofreh, a symbolic wedding spread placed on a beautifully arranged wedding cloth incorporating items of important significance to the bride and groom. These items included:

Mirror and candlesticks: A mirror reflects what is before it, so symbolically it brings the couple abundance and brightness in their future. The candles bring passion and energy.

Honey: A bowl of honey is presented to the couple, and the groom dips his finger into the honey and gives it to his bride. The bride reciprocates and offers her husband honey, as well. The sweetness of the honey symbolises a sweet life together.

Gold and silver: For prosperity

Fresh flowers: To bring beauty in the couple’s life together

Fresh Fruit: For a joyous future

Post ceremony guests enjoyed an abundant aperitif and a chance to soak up the sun and beautiful surroundings.

An incredible wedding banquet followed with every detail carefully considered from the table centre pieces to the wonderful table plan presented in ornate individual photo frames. Speeches and toasts followed and then came the evening dancing, including a traditional Persian dance where guests take turns 'stealing' the knife that is set for cutting the cake. They take turns dancing with the knife and collecting 'ransom money' from the couple (in this case beautiful white roses). The knife was passed from woman to woman, each showing off her dancing skills, until eventually it was passed back to the groom. The DJ then played a fun mix of European and Iranian music and guests danced the night away, enjoying every minute!

A truly stylish and sensational wedding, thank you Soulmaz and Magnus for allowing us to share in your special day.
