Sorrento Wedding Ceremonies

Why choose Sorrento for your civil wedding ceremony?

Situated on a terrace overlooking the breath-taking Amalfi coastline, Sorrento is full of charm and has been a popular tourist destination for almost two centuries. Pavement coffee shops, family run restaurants, tucked away antique shops, clothing boutiques and bustling piazzas, together with the beautiful scent of the orange and lemon trees, have ensured that people continue to visit year after year. “Torna a Surriento” is the famous song (Come back to Sorrento) and once you have experienced the beauty of Sorrento yourself you will completely understand the true meaning of this romantic Neapolitan song!

the cloister of san. francesco

The 14th Century San Francesco Cloister is an idyllic venue adjacent to the baroque San Francesco church and is located in the heart of Sorrento, near the square of Sant’Antonino and the public gardens of the town which offer sensational views across the Gulf of Naples. The Cloister offers a peaceful and romantic, open-air setting with beautiful architecture and is the most popular civil ceremony location in Sorrento.

Why we love this ceremony location :

  • Undoubtedly the most stunning open air setting in Sorrento with incredible architecture making it picture perfect for your official wedding photos.

  • Centrally located in Sorrento making it easy for you and your guests to arrive and move on to your chosen reception venue.

  • Adjacent to the public gardens of the town (Villa Comunale) which offer the most incredible views across the bay. This is a nice place for your guests to congregate before the ceremony and afterwards for more beautiful wedding photo opportunities.

What to be aware of :

  • The most popular ceremony location in Sorrento, therefore availability can be limited.

  • More than one ceremony per day, you are allocated a time allocation for your ceremony.

  • This is a popular tourist location, therefore the Cloister offers less privacy than some of the other Sorrento ceremony locations.

museo correale di Terranova

The Museum Correale is located in a 17th century villa and was opened in May 1924, boasting valuable period furniture and impressive paintings. Centrally located in Sorrento, a short walk from the main Piazza Tasso, Museo Correale is surrounded by gardens with centuries old trees, plants and a citrus grove. There is a choice of ceremony settings here : for those of you looking for a beautiful rustic, garden setting for your ceremony, then this is the perfect location for you. Alternatively there is the option to celebrate your wedding in the grand and very elegant ‘Sala degli Specchi’ (hall of mirrors) inside.

Why we love this ceremony location :

  • Centrally positioned, making it easy for you and your guests to arrive and move on to your chosen reception venue.

  • The entrance is particularly grand and if you have chosen to have a ceremony in the gardens there is a beautiful, long walkway to ensure you make the perfect bridal entrance.

  • With the entrance close to the road you can also arrive in style in your chosen wedding car without having to navigate your way through tourists.

  • Both the gardens and the inside ‘Sala degli Specchi’ offer a great alternative to the overall ‘vibe’ of the reception locations in Sorrento and can be decorated and styled as you wish.

  • You have the option to extend the timings of your ceremony (supplement applies) to include a drinks reception post ceremony. Perfect if you’d like to make the most of your day and not rush from location to location. For rustic styling we love the cute barrel bar set up for prosecco and nibbles post ceremony whilst you have some time to yourselves for those all important photographs.

  • Being slightly further away from the tourist hot spots, the Museum can offer a higher level of privacy for your ceremony.

What to be aware of :

  • With the entrance being close to a busy road, you may be able to hear some traffic noise if choosing the gardens.

villa fondi de sangro (piano di sorrento)

Villa Fondi, situated outside of Sorrento (a 10 minute drive from the centre) was built in 1840 in neo-classical style by the Prince of Fondi, Don Giovanni Andrea De Sangro, and offers extensive grounds and a terrace overlooking the sea above the Marina di Cassano, in one of the most beautiful and scenic areas of the Sorrentine Peninsula.

The Villa is surrounded by extensive gardens, now a public park, with lush plants and trees, ideal for photographs post ceremony. The sea facing terrace ensures that you do not miss the sensational views of the Coast at any point during your wedding.

Why we love this ceremony location :

  • Situated in a quieter area away from the centre of Sorrento, the stunning terrace affords a good degree of privacy for your civil ceremony.

  • Incredible sea views - perfect for your wedding photos.

  • Timings can be extended (supplement applies) if you wish to have longer to appreciate those views!

What to be aware of :

  • Located in Piano di Sorrento, a 10 minute drive from the centre of Sorrento, you will need to consider transportation for your guests to and from your chosen reception venue.

  • Choose carefully the timings of your ceremony as it can get very hot on the terrace in the height of summer.

Symbolic Ceremonies

Symbolic ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular every year in Italy. Although they do not have legal validity, they can be arranged anywhere in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, a charming villa on top of the sea, a hotel with sea view terrace and even on a private boat! The symbolic ceremony is a valid option to a civil ceremony, if you want to experience a wedding ceremony avoiding any paperwork or if have already had a legally binding ceremony at home. Working together with our English native wedding celebrant you can create a personalised wedding service without any of the legal requirements of a civil ceremony. Symbolic elements can be chosen to reflect your personalities, to represent you as a couple, to incorporate religious or cultural traditions, or simply as a display of the love you have for each other.

Why we love symbolic ceremonies :

  • You can choose exactly the style, length and feel of your wedding ceremony.

  • There are no restrictions on locations, therefore you can have everything ‘under one roof’ to avoid moving your guests from location to location.

  • It saves you money as you do not have to complete the legal paperwork required in order to marry in Italy, nor do you have to pay a separate fee to the relevant town hall.

  • You can add in symbolic elements such as candles, wine ceremonies, sand ceremonies, ring warming … the list is endless.

  • Symbolic Ceremonies are perfect for those looking to renew their vows.

What to be aware of :

  • You will need to complete the legal paperwork process at home to ensure your marriage is legally binding.
